Praying for our Pastor

And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding. Jeremiah 3:15 (KJV)

Eternal Father,
Our pastor and his family are one in fellowship with the people of Jesus at Pikeville United Methodist Church. We give you praise that you have already supplied Pastor Willard with gifts and graces for ministry to your people. We thank you that you are opening our heart, minds, and ears to receive that which is necessary for our growth in Christ. We know the Holy Spirit desires for the fruit of the spirit to sweeten this ministry. We pray that Pastor Willard will be blessed through our staff, our leaders, and our fellowship by kindness and encouragement. We pray that his preaching and teaching will not be hindered by the enemy and that he and his family find a hedge of protection around them as we pray. Let every crooked place be made straight and every rough place smoothed (Is. 40:4) so that the glory of the Lord will be seen in this time. Grant wisdom and understanding to his mind and discernment to his heart so that Pastor Willard may lead us in harmony with your will and way.

Let our hearts remember that it is your will that we pray for our pastor. Let us be diligent with your word. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer for Pikeville

EYE ON PIKEVILLE – Praying for the future of Pikeville- Breaking Bondages

“I am the Lord, and I will. . . . .” (Exodus 6:6-7)

Your very name means “the One who causes to be.” We cry out to You to deliver our city and our county from the bondage of drug, alcohol, pornography, gambling and every other addiction that preys upon the souls and bodies of our people. Our city boasts of an incredible accomplishment in the moving of a mountain to allow a better access to progress.

Jesus said, “Have faith in God. Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him. Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.” (Mark11:22-24)

We know that there is nothing that is too hard for you, and so we ask that a perimeter surround this city and county for the purpose of halting drug trafficking. May your angels patrol its borders and war for it. Within we ask that a fire would burn in the hearts of our people to be delivered from bondage. We believe in the words of Jesus . . . With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26). In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

Praying for College Students

Our college students have begun a new (and for some) first semester of school . . . some are away from home . . .some are living at home and commuting, but in either case new responsibilities and new challenges face them as they juggle schedules, new surroundings, and new acquaintances. We, as a church must recall our vows to remain examples of Christ to these young men and women who not so very long ago were first learning of Jesus in primary Sunday School classes.

We cannot know the extent peer pressure; the effect of new freedoms; and diverse ideas may have upon our children. However, we can very well be certain that we serve a Holy God who does know and is unchanging in His holiness and protection. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever(Hebrews 13:8) His love for our children is measured greater than our own, and He has a magnificent plan for each of these young people. It is our great privilege to participate in the plan God has arranged by praying for our students. We have fashioned an acrostic focusing on particular areas in which students may encounter great challenges. We hope this is helpful in praying for our young men and women.

We ask each of you take some time each day to pray for one or more of our students

Additionally, pray for other areas of concern in which students will need the strength and wisdom of the Holy Spirit to prevail. You may wish to consider: Rebellion (Romans 13:1); Drugs (the sanctity of the body: Psalm 139); Alcohol (Proverbs 23:29-30); Violence (Isaiah 54:17); Sexual Immorality (Matthew 15:19); the Occult (I Peter 5:8-9; Ephesians 6); Cheating (Proverbs 6:16-19).

Remember to bless our young men and women each day. Ask God to grant them His blessing.” You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. (Deuteronomy 28: 1-12, v. 3)

So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.(Hebrews 10:35-36)

We would love to have a snapshot of your college student with his/her name and the attending college. With your permission we will display the pictures of our students surrounding our prayer so that our congregation may be reminded to pray. Let us be faithful to pray!

Heavenly Father,

Your word says, “For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” (Proverbs 2:6). We pray that the campus of __________________ will be a choice environment of godly wisdom and knowledge for __________________. If it is not so we pray that spiritual awakening will break forth and purify the atmosphere of learning.

Every organization must come under authority. Today we stand upon the word of Jesus, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given unto me.” (Matthew 28:19). We agree that all organizations with which _________________will be involved be governed by those who serve your purpose and follow your plan.

We pray You would raise up young people who have a heart for You and for spiritual awakening. We ask You to mold young men and women who will be vessels through which He can send awakening. We pray that You will give these young people a fearless and relentless attitude toward God, His Word, and spiritual awakening (2 Chronicles 7:14). May those leaders be strengthened by the Holy Spirit to encourage others to set their hearts on You.

We pray that ____________will know the unending love of God. (Romans 8:39) Allow that truth to guide and direct each decision and emotion. We ask that Your holy angels would surround and minister to _______________when any doubt arises as to the faithfulness of Your love. Let nothing within or without say otherwise.

Give ________________a clear mind to receive the training and knowledge for the plan You have made. May the truth be revealed through the wisdom of the Holy Spirit to mesh with the knowledge that is being taught in the classroom and in every conversation which concerns the education of this young person. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119: 105)

We pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in these college years and beyond. We know that Jesus intends for __________________ to hear his voice and enjoy a fully alive and loving relationship. (John 16:13)

We bless _______________________ with the evidence of a life dedicated to God. May the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5: 22-23) become more pronounced in the life of Your child. We pray that others may see the compassion and strength of Jesus in the chosen life work of this precious young person and be encouraged in the way that leads to life eternal.
