Music

The Music Ministry at Pikeville UMC offers a variety of opportunities for children and adults interested in using their musical talents. Musical activities are under the leadership of Jerry P. Waddell, Director of Music.

The Children’s Choirs, meet on Wednesday evenings during the Word on Wednesday program. The children prepare music to sing in the Morning Worship service as well as special programs at various times during the year. The Children’s Choirs meet while public schools are in session and then dismiss for the summer.

The Early Encounter Praise Team meets weekly to prepare music for the Early Encounter Praise and Worship service. If Praise and Worship music interests you, contact Pam Gilliam for information on rehearsal times.

Traditionally the Chancel Choir has provided service music and anthems for the Morning Worship service. The choir is directed by Jerry P. Waddell and accompanied by Carolyn C. Diamond and Marcia Adkins Hunt. The Chancel Choir meets for rehearsal each Wednesday evening (August - May) at 7:45 p.m. During June and July the rehearsal time is moved to 7:00 p.m. In addition to providing music for weekly services, the choir also provides special programs during Advent and Easter. For questions about the Chancel Choir, contact Jerry P. Waddell.

Another opportunity for you to use your musical talents is by joining the PUMC Bellchoir. The bellchoir is made up of youth and adults. The groups meets each week for a one-hour rehearsal on Suday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. For additional information about the handbell choir, please feel free to contact Jerry P. Waddell, Director of Music.
